This tidbits update is being brought too you by the Oklahoma tracks that have their ad and support oklahomatidbits.com. We will start out with a brief preview of each tracks season to come and some dates to mark down on your personal race calendar. Following the preview, there will be other "tidbits" of interest.
After one year hiatus, Red River Speedway in Wichita Falls, Texas is back serving asphalt racing to the area of Wichita Falls every Saturday night. There will be a "meet and great" with the management and staff with all racers and race fans on March 1st. The first race of the season gets underway on March 29th featuring Pro Sedans, Hornets, Chargers, Bombers and Thunderstocks. Other big races on tap during the season include visits from USST (United States Super Trucks), Texas Pro Sedans, and the legends cars. During the winter, the track has become an ASA member track with points and finished being recorded, much like that of IMCA and their dirt tracks. Stay tuned for more information about this inaugural happening. You want something different to do, catch some asphalt racing at least once during this 2008 season and let them know your there cause you saw the track ad on tidbits.
Brill Motor Speedway in Meeker is back in their third season of having an ad here on tidbits and it is upon my belief this will be the biggest season yet. This is not the same track you came to watch twenty years ago as the track is once again getting a bit of a face lift, along with new building improvements on the grounds and a new mini track for kid sprints, which will join the champ sprints, modifieds, factory stocks, mini stocks and limited modifieds every Saturday night. Also, the Ford Focus midgets will take to the track at least once a month. Make sure you check out the tracks schedule for dates. The season gets underway March 29th with raceceivers now a part of the tracks rules. You can contact Sapulpa's Richard Bias of Bullett Racing Products to order yours if you don't have one already. In 2007, Richard won the modified track championship while Eddie Guinn picked up his second consecutive champ sprint championship. Also winning track championships at Meeker were Johnny Reed (factory stocks), Danny Drake (mini stocks) and Holly Williams (limited modifieds). I look for an average champ sprint car count of at least fifteen each Saturday night as drivers are finding a smoother track and no smash derby. There is a rumor that two-time and defending SFS factory stock champion Kevin Becker will race a modifed there on Saturday nights. Brill Motor Speedway will also host the Oklahoma Modified Championship during their winter nationals, as was the case in 2007.
Enid Speedway Park will be under the second season behind the ownership of Longpine and promoting of Lonnie Covelle. While there are no USMTS races in 2008, that won't stop the track from hosting a big modified extravaganza. They will host a three day, Thunder in the Park weekend climaxing with a $10,000 to win modified event. The street stocks and sport mods will also compete for $1000 to win. You can read more on rules and payout by clicking on their banner and it will take you to the site. The NCRA modifieds will make an appearnce on May 17th and try to out perform last years exciting last lap finish when Jeremy Massey passed Brian Franz on the last lap for the victory. The NCRA late models will take to the track twice, July 5 and during the tracks winter nationals in October. Also, the SMRS midgets will make an appearance August 16th. Last year, Darren Hacker won the tracks modified championship while Justin Scott won the factory stock title, Tony Sesssions the limited modified championship (his first season ever in a modified) and Duane Head and AJ Brochu the pure stock and street stock championships respectively.
"Former?" racer Ronnie Gould is back for his second full year at the helm of Lake Country Speedway in Ardmore. The saturday night racing card includes modifieds, sport mods, factory stocks, hobby stocks, tornadoes and late models. Upon falling in love with the track two hours south of MWC three times in 2007, I am pumped for the track in 2008. I guess Gould and the rest of the staff are as well as the old concession stands have been torn down and a new modern one is being built both on the grandstand side and pit side. New restrooms are also being built and alot of cleanup to get ready for an exciting race season. The big race in my books is the USMTS southern series race scheduled there for Friday night, May 2nd, before they head to Cowtown Speedway in Kennedate for a Saturday night showdown. I have pushed and begged to USMTS Todd Staley hard about having the series there and things have worked out where they will. The track is a great modified track and it should be a greatly run show. One other big special will be a media race in August with your truely asked to be one of the drivers, all for charity. More information on this as the months come. Buddy Honacker won last years modified track championship on the last night over Travis Penrod.
While not yet finalized, it does appear that Tri-State Speedway in Pocola (Fort Smith) will be renewing their ad for 2008. The track will new management for 2008 (Universal Speedways Inc. still will own it) with alot of specials planned for their 37th season of action. The annual and historic Kegger (sponsor to be announced) is coming up March 13-15 with a couple of city area modifieds are making plans to attend. Among the specials for the track in 2008 are the USMTS southern series (part of speedweek), the Show-Me Late Models out of Missouri, the annual North/South modified shootout and the super stock shootout. Local Lonnie Robins wrapped up his fiftth consecutive modified track championship in 2007 and looks to sixpete in 2008.
And finally, Ole George Welch and Oklahoma Sports Park in Ada is said to be renewing their ad for 2008. Other than Lanny Edwards at Lawton Speedway, George is the longest lasting promoter in the state at one track and much will be the same in 2008 with a couple of OCRS sprint dates dotted on the schedule with the modifieds, pure stocks, e-mods, factory stocks and street stocks. There could be the addition of the sport mods and the dropping of one division if the car count doesn't grow so stay tuned here for more information.
That was a brief review of the tracks that have their ad placed here on tidbits for 2008. I do hope that you will visit each track at least once just to get out and support their racing. I plan on it, yes even the asphalt track in Wichita Falls.
Now for the "tidbits" from around the area.
Race fans are the greatest and sure do take car of their own. Was posted on my forum about the young daughter of factory stock driver Ray Daugherty suffering from Autism. Nancy Alaska Dawn is the young girls name and they are selling Autism Speaks decals for donations to the cause. Well Joe Wood, Jr. and team donated $1000 to the cause to help in learning more about Autism. Wouldn't it be nice if all you racers and fans bought a decal and displayed it on your race car or personal car? Well you can by sending donations in the name of Nancy to the following address:

You know, I mentioned in another update about me looking for a charity to compete for in the media race at Lake Country Speedway in August. Could this be the one, in the name of kids everywhere?
He is not retired folks. Rumors of Don Strawn getting out of racing are false as I am told he will continue to field cars for Michelle Decker and James Beane in 2008. However, Gary Flatt will not be a regular as he has retired from racing.
14 yr. old Shayla Waddell will join the Buntins and make her debut in champ sprint action in 2008 at SFS. Shayla is fresh off a 1-44 Speedway championship in the restricted class and with help of Glen Tidwell (Chris Burns champ sprint championship car owner the past couple of years) bought a sprinter from Perry Robb (Treys father).
With my Camry still down with a hurt motor, I am looking to hitch a ride to the Dirt Track at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth on Thursday night if you are headed home straight afterwards. I will probably rent a car and head down for Friday nights action as son has a double header in baseball Saturday at Putnam West high school. Look for a strong contingent of Oklahoma modified drivers on hand for the $3000 to win event which should see over 200 modifieds and over 100 sport mods in the pit area. I know of at least ten Oklahoma modified drivers that will be there and expect at least twenty from the Sooner state to attend. Former SFS factory stock champion Shawn Jorski to debut his modified there as well in preps for his first full rookie season behind the wheel of a modified.
Don't forget to keep an eye at the top of this page for all special race banners that will be displayed throughout the 2008 race season.
If your looking to place an ad here on tidbits, the states largest racing website, email me for details.
Also, if your a driver and would like to make you up a simple but informative drivers website, email me for details. Joe Wood Jr. looks to be next on my list, joining Jorski and Tyler Propps.
Make sure you keep tabs on the schedule/results page for updates.
That is all for this small tidbits update. Thank you all for your support of this website over the years and hope it continues for years to come.
